A District 7 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Watertown moved up to 193 from 225 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in A District 7. A 57-30 win over Monterey helped the Purple Tigers improve their standing.
Trousdale County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. The Yellowjackets vanquished Clay County 52-6 earlier in the week.
Kaelin Cason was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 200 yards on 18 carries as Gordonsville defeated the Wildcats. Payton Watson also contributed to the rushing game with 86 yards on the ground.
AJ Long threw for 369 yards and six touchdowns. He went 10-15 with zero interceptions.
Belcher was the best wideout in A District 7 this week as Gavin Webster's team topped Monterey. Belcher tallied four receptions for 109 yards. Dakota Self helped Watertown's passing attack out by catching three balls for 104 yards.
Dillon Hodges made the biggest impact on defense this week as Friendship Christian beat Pickett County. The 6-foot-0 senior recorded one fumble and grabbed one sack.
The Commanders' Long and Hunter Watts have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Long has thrown for 1440 yards this season, while Watts, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 11 catches for 399 yards. Cason from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 840 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Friendship Christian takes on Trousdale County. At the moment, John McNeal's team is in second, while Kevin Creasy's team is in fourth.
The Purple Tigers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bill Heady's team, 57-30. The win marks fifth in a row for the Watertown.
