Norwell and South Adams are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Knights will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Starfires at 5:30 p.m. Norwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Norwell is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Columbia City just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3.
Kayla Watkins was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Watkins was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Watkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leah Werling, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, South Adams had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 6-3.
Like Norwell, South Adams also got a great game from a two-way player: Addie Baker. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Baker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
South Adams pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Norwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Norwell hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like South Adams struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Norwell might still be hurting after the 17-10 loss they got from South Adams in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
