Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Clemens

Clemens waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Sinton Pirates a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Alexus Worthy and Sophia Valencia made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Worthy pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Valencia pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance gave Worthy a new career-low in hits. At bat, Worthy went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Valencia scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, Valencia posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, Ava Arnold and Bradie Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Arnold scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Martinez scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Martinez has posted over her last ten games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubry Willmann, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Clemens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Clemens' win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs over those games. As for Sinton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Clemens will venture away from home to challenge La Grange at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. La Grange's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Clemens' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Sinton, they will challenge Alice at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
