Even though the Boca Ciega Pirates have not done well against the Lakewood Spartans recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Boca Ciega managed a 71-67 victory over Lakewood. Given Boca Ciega's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Lakewood is ranked 414th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jordan Naylor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 28 points along with five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jelani Nix, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Boca Ciega and bumps their season record up to 8-4. As for Lakewood, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Boca Ciega is on the road again on Thursday and play against Northside Christian at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th. Lakewood and Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
