It was a good run, but The Millsap Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 24-17 to Jacksboro. While losing is never fun, Millsap can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 459th, while Jacksboro is ranked 227th).
When it comes to explaining why Millsap lost, one person who can't be blamed is Reid Green. Despite the final result, he rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. Green was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 65 yards. Walter Bagley got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Millsap's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Bryce Hunkapiller and his two sacks.
Jacksboro's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cannon Valenzuela, who picked up 177 receiving yards and a touchdown. Valenzuela hasn't dropped below 100 receiving yards for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Lando Belcher, who threw for 395 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 19.8 yards per attempt.
Millsap's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Jacksboro, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 10-0.
Millsap will challenge Merkel on Friday. Merkel is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Jacksboro, they will be playing at home against Dublin at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Dublin is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
