The Humphreys County Cowboys won the last time they faced the Amanda Elzy Panthers, and things went their way on Thursday too. Humphreys County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-22 victory over Amanda Elzy. The win made it back-to-back wins for Humphreys County.
Humphreys County was led to victory by Ollizous Brent and Markevious York. Brent rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, while York rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Tayshun Walker got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Amanda Elzy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jevarion Glover. Despite the final result, he threw for 409 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 106 yards on only 13 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Markell McCain, who gained 157 total yards and a touchdown.
Humphreys County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Amanda Elzy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.
Humphreys County will look to defend their home field on November 3rd against Belmont at 7:00 p.m. Belmont will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Humphreys County is ranked 99th). Amanda Elzy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
