West Cabarrus hasn't had much luck against Porter Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The West Cabarrus Wolverines will head out to challenge the Porter Ridge Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, West Cabarrus came up short against Olympic and fell 41-28. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Porter Ridge put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Hickory Ridge 56-14 on the road. With the Pirates ahead 42-2 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Porter Ridge can attribute much of their success to Christian Myers, who rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, and Kisiah Harris, who gained 111 total yards and a touchdown. Harris got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 71 yards. Rai'Shawn Elmore also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Porter Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 165 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
Porter Ridge's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Payton Ryder and Makai Henriquez. Ryder also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making a tackle and defending a pass in addition to snagging two interceptions.
West Cabarrus now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Porter Ridge, their record is now 3-0.
