Football Game Preview: Lake Ridge Eagles vs. Mansfield Tigers

Lake Ridge is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mansfield Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 828 yards in their previous games.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Lake Ridge faced off against North Forney last Friday. The Eagles were outmatched by the Falcons and fell 55-28. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Despite the defeat, Lake Ridge had strong showings from DeShawn Edwards, who rushed for 145 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries, and Jaiden Cotton, who rushed for 121 yards and two TDs. Edwards' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 142 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mansfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down Boswell 31-12 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The critical scores for Mansfield came from Zion Robinson, Cole Williams, Andrew McKinney, and Kenley Woods.

Mansfield's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Lake Ridge, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Lake Ridge has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 443.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Mansfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 369.8 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
