New Braunfels (Texas) surprised No. 247
San Marcos (Texas) 24-7 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the first quarter, the Unicorns led 21-0 at the half.
New Braunfels expanded its lead to 24 points entering the fourth quarter. NB's lone score in the quarter came on a field goal.
San Marcos' only touchdown came on a 3-yard pass from
Tucker Smith to
David Hamilton in the fourth quarter.
The Unicorns has struggled this season, allowing 30.8 points per game. However, New Braunfels' defense dug in and limited the Rattlers well below their season average of 21.3 points per game.
A 38-31 New Braunfels victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Unicorns, who lost to Canyon last week, 27-7. The loss was the third in a row for San Marcos.
In a 5A Region IV District 25 game next week San Marcos (3-4) takes on Judson, and New Braunfels (2-5) will go up against Wagner also in a 5A Region IV District 25 game.
