If the Springfield Tigers were feeling good off their 42-15 takedown of the McKinley Trojans last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Springfield fell 58-49 to the Rams on Monday. Springfield was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Springfield still got an impressive performance from Jameka Brungard, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds. Brungard is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight.
Ava Hulett was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds for Mineral Ridge. Hulett is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last five games she's played. Norah Schneider was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Springfield's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6. As for Mineral Ridge, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. Mineral Ridge will take on the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lordstown is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
