After flying high against the North Chicago Warhawks last Friday, The Grant Community Bulldogs came back down to earth. Grant Community was just a hair shy of victory on Saturday and fell 21-20 to Wauconda. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grant Community in their matchups with Wauconda: they've now lost seven in a row.
Grant Community's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Gipson, who threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Leading Wauconda to victory were Connor Vanselow and Cole Porten. Vanselow only rushed for 76 yards and and a rushing score, while Porten rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Porten was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards.
Grant Community's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Wauconda, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Grant Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wauconda will head out on the road to face off against Belvidere North at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Belvidere North will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
