Baseball Recap: Southwest Has No Trouble Against Coral Reef

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Southwest had no problem doing just that on Monday. They put the hurt on the Coral Reef Barracudas with a sharp 10-1 win. That looming 10-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.

Tyler Villamor looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Albert Bell was incredible, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Michael Cabrera was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The victory made it two in a row for Southwest and bumps their season record up to 15-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Coral Reef, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Southwest will challenge South Dade at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coral Reef does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
