Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bernalillo walked away with it. They didn't even let Valencia onto the board and left with a 52-0 victory on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Bernalillo.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bernalillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Uriel Castro, who threw for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mason Mcchriston also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Portales' good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They fell 29-21 to Lovington. Portales has struggled against Lovington recently, as their game two weeks ago was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Bernalillo's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Portales, their loss dropped their record down to 9-1.
Bernalillo was taken down by Portales 38-0 when the teams last played back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Portales' Paxton Culpepper, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes.
