Baseball Recap: St. Mary Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for St. Mary, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Mayfield Cardinals on Thursday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by ten runs or more this season.

Skylar Padon was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, St. Mary got a massive performance out of Andrew Puckett, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Brett Haas, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

St. Mary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mayfield only posted an OBP of .500.

St. Mary pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary will take on Ballard Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mayfield, they will challenge Livingston Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Livingston Central has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.6 runs per game on average), something Mayfield will no doubt try to take advantage of.
