Payson is 8-2 against Camp Verde since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Longhorns will look to defend their home field against the Cowboys at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Payson came up short against St. Johns and fell 11-8. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Shylah Waterman made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Logann Prock, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Camp Verde, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Chandler Prep a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The Cowboys' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kinlee Oothoudt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Clancy Murdock was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. Ashlyn Durnez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Camp Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Camp Verde's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Payson, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Payson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Camp Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Payson beat Camp Verde 9-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Do the Longhorns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cowboys turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
