The Mount Pleasant Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Union Academy Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Pleasant has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 396 points over their last six matches.
Mount Pleasant scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 79-68 win over North Stanly. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, Union Academy pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of South Stanly by a score of 61-58. While losing is never fun, Union Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 537th, while South Stanly is ranked 220th).
The losing side was boosted by Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Rangolan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Union Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their tenth loss (out of 13 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Mount Pleasant is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for Union Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.
Mount Pleasant came up short against Union Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 78-74. Can Mount Pleasant avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
