Lakewood is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Anacortes.
Lakewood got a good showing from Connor Taylor, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Taylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aiden Jones made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Burlington-Edison put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Mt. Baker. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Ryder Aldridge's shutout, as he gave up just five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jakson Granger, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cody Roetcisoender, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Burlington-Edison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Burlington-Edison's record now sits at 6-1. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Lakewood came up short against Burlington-Edison in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
