Westwood has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Teague Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Westwood's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Westwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Franklin and snuck past 85-83. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Franklin is ranked 949th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood found their leader in underclassman Kavian Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. Bryant hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Carter, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Teague won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 75-44 loss at the hands of Fairfield. Teague has struggled against Fairfield recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Teague got a solid performance out of Jehmel Rice, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Rice is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Leija, who scored ten points.
Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Teague, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Westwood have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 40% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Teague, though, as they've only made 35.6% of their threes per game this season. Given Westwood's sizeable advantage in that area, Teague will need to find a way to close that gap.
Westwood came up short against Teague in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 58-49. Can Westwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
