The Carson Senators will take on the Dayton Dust Devils at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Carson was able to grind out a solid victory over Reno, taking the game 6-1. The Senators haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Madison Blanchard-Salazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Sofia Morrison was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Jordan Brubaker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Carson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reno only posted a batting average of .174.
Meanwhile, Dayton put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over Truckee. Considering the Dust Devils have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Dayton also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Donnita Wass gave up a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. Wass has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kiley Paterson, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Hannum, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Carson's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Dayton, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Dayton struggles in that department as they've averaged .654. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carson took their victory against Dayton in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 14-4. Does Carson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Dayton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
