Softball Recap: Kirtland Wins Going Away Against Crestwood

Kirtland's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Crestwood Red Devils. Considering the Hornets have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Gracie Svigel tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kirtland got a massive performance out of Grace Mastrangelo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Mastrangelo has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Sydnie Sullivan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Kirtland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crestwood only posted an OBP of .360.

Kirtland's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 8-12. As for Crestwood, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-15.

Kirtland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Crestwood, they will square off against Lakeview at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
