Two dominant in Erick Thorn and Rhyder Bayne are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Otis Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Peetz Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two weeks ago, Otis faced Arickaree in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Otis breezed by Arickaree at home to the tune of 78-36. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Otis' six-point performance the contest before.
Otis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tayte Smith led the charge by rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Thorn was in the mix as well, providing Otis with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Peetz at home against Weldon Valley on Friday as the team secured a 56-6 victory. Peetz pushed the score to 48-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Weldon Valley had no chance of recovering from.
Peetz got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chance Segelke out in front who threw for 101 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Bayne, who rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown.
Otis' win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Peetz, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Otis and Peetz have no problem gaining yardage. Otis has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 364.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Peetz struggles in that department as they've been averaging 362.1 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Otis was dealt a bruising 42-14 loss at the hands of Peetz when the teams last played back in September of 2019. Thankfully for Otis, Cooper White (who rushed for 264 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
