The Millard Eagles will head out to take on the South Sevier Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Millard has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while South Sevier will arrive with 23 straight victories.
South Summit hit Millard with a four-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 11-1 to the Wildcats.
Maren Davies was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, South Sevier made easy work of Beaver on Wednesday and carried off a 13-2 win. Considering the Rams have won 13 matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kloe Donohue made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Caitlin Nielson was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Halle Mckinlay, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
South Sevier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaver only posted an OBP of .320.
South Sevier pushed their record up to 23-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Millard, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Millard hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like South Sevier struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Millard suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to South Sevier in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
