Gabby Anderoni was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, she gave up only four walks, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.
In other batting news, Allison Sautner was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Payton Romano, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Collegium Charter hit Calvary Christian Academy with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars fell just short of the Cougar by a score of 6-4.
Karissa Benjamin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Alexa Chandler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Eva Henry was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Calvary Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Renaissance Academy, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Calvary Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Renaissance Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Calvary Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 strikeouts. Will Renaissance Academy keep running through batters, or will the Cougars buck the trend?
Renaissance Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Calvary Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-4. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
