After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Kent-Meridian (Kent, Wash.) held on for a 24-7 victory over
Auburn Riverside (Auburn, Wash.) on Saturday. The difference for the Royals was
Vinnie Malietufa ran for a touchdown.
The Ravens pulled ahead on a
Kevin Thomsen touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 7-3. The Royals scored the winning points with a Malietufa touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring three points in the third, Kent-Meridian still trailed by 1 point going into the fourth quarter. But 18 points in the fourth helped KM pull out the victory.
Dion Leung played well for the Kent school in the victory. The senior wide receiver kicked three field goals and one extra point.
Auburn Riverside's Thomsen played well. The junior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
AR's lone touchdown came on a 10-yard run by Thomsen in the second quarter.
The Royals had struggled this season, allowing 32.6 points per game. However, Kent-Meridian's defense dug in and limited the Auburn school well below its season average of 27.0 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Ravens took, 37-14.
The win was a nice bounce back for KM, which lost to Spanaway Lake last week, 18-15.
Kent-Meridian (2-4) will play a 4A SPSL - North game against Auburn next week, while Auburn Riverside (1-5) will take on Curtis in a non-conference game.
