The Wellsboro Hornets''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 21-6 bruising from North Penn-Mansfield. Wellsboro lost against North Penn-Mansfield in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 24-21 score last time.
Among those leading the charge was Cale Wagner, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also picked up 53 receiving yards. Wagner was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards. Karson Dominick was another key contributor, throwing for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
North Penn-Mansfield's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Ethan Dick and his two sacks.
Wellsboro's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 4.8 points per game. As for North Penn-Mansfield, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Wellsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. North Penn-Mansfield will head out on the road to face off against Southern Columbia Area at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Columbia Area presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than North Penn-Mansfield in Pennsylvania (Southern Columbia Area is ranked 49th, while North Penn-Mansfield is ranked 460th).
