Basketball Recap: Highland's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Highland put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 68-58 win over the Eaton Reds. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Reds are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Highland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sawyer Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards. Morgan has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 24 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dom Huntington, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 17 points.

Highland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Eaton lost, don't look at Ely Madaleno. Despite the final result, he posted 22 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Sprinkle, who had 13 points and three steals.

Highland pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.6 points per game. As for Eaton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Liberty Common at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Liberty Common likes a good challenge. As for Eaton, they will challenge Fort Morgan at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eaton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
