Basketball Recap: Addie Maiben and Delaney Betzner Secure Win for Maconaquah

Maconaquah had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 59-52 victory over the Southwood Knights. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Braves also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Maconaquah was led to victory by Delaney Betzner and Addie Maiben. Betzner went 9 for 18 en route to 26 points and five boards, while Maiben went 5 of 9 on her way to 17 points. Betzner's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Averie Maiben also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Maconaquah was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive contests.

Southwood lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Hali Pershing, who posted 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Pershing has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lola Winer, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points and six assists.

Maconaquah has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Southwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Maconaquah has already played their next contest (against Whitko), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Southwood will face off against Lewis Cass at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
