Baseball Game Preview: Kentwood Conquerors vs. Mt. Rainier Rams

For the second straight game, Kentwood will face off against Mt. Rainier. The Conquerors will head out to challenge the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Kentwood has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Kentwood took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Mt. Rainier 5-4.

Alex Alstrom tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kentwood is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Tucker Maurer was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kai Ito, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Kentwood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Rainier, they moved to 3-2-1 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kentwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mt. Rainier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
