The Cozad Haymakers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They slipped by Ord 50-49. Given Cozad's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Ord is ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cozad's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Fales, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Noah Shoemaker, who scored 15 points.
Ord lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Blake Hinrichs, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Jordan Williams was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Cozad's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Ord, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.
Cozad will be playing at home against Ogallala at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ogallala has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 819 points over their last 11 contests. As for Ord, they will head out on the road to face off against Gibbon at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Gibbon is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
