Baseball Recap: Marshall Academy Has No Trouble Against Kirk Academy

Marshall Academy lost to Kirk Academy on Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Marshall Academy Patriots were the clear victor by a 12-3 margin over the Kirk Academy Raiders. Considering the Patriots have won seven matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Phillip Sharpe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last six games. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. He has become a key player for Marshall Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Collin Woods and Gage Todd did most of the damage at the plate: Woods scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4, while Todd scored a run while going 2-for-5. What's more, Todd posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Mason Woods, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Marshall Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kirk Academy only managed five hits.

Marshall Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. The loss snapped Kirk Academy's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-1 record.

Marshall Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Kirk Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
