Talladega has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Jacksonville Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Talladega will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 277th, while Jacksonville is ranked 34th).
Last Thursday, Talladega came up short against Anniston and fell 58-46. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Talladega has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Jacksonville lost to Gadsden City at home by a decisive 62-46 margin on Tuesday. It was the first time this season that Jacksonville let down their fans at home.
The losing side was boosted by Devin Barksdale, who scored 23 points along with five steals. The contest was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sean Herbert, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Jacksonville struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Talladega's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Jacksonville, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.
Talladega suffered a grim 83-62 defeat to Jacksonville when the teams last played back in November. Can Talladega avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
