Softball Recap: Whitney Wins Going Away Against Cabrillo

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitney challenged Cabrillo on Wednesday. The Whitney Wildcats blew past the Cabrillo Jaguars 13-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Amaya Dugal made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Dugal was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Navya Manni and Ella Nelson did most of the damage at the plate: Manni scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Nelson scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, Nelson posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Aranda, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Whitney and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs. As for Cabrillo, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitney will challenge Anaheim at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Cabrillo, they will take on Bolsa Grande at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cabrillo is facing Bolsa Grande at the right time seeing as Bolsa Grande is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
