Chiqui Vazquez was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Natalie Nieves, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Whitney Young always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maine East only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, Niles West suffered their closest defeat since April 30th on Friday. They fell just short of Amundsen by a score of 5-3. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Penny Hutchison was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Hutchison wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Park, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Whitney Young pushed their record up to 23-10-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Niles West, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.
Niles West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitney Young has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. It's a different story for Niles West, though, as they've only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Whitney Young's hitters?
