Lake City is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Saturday. They will venture away from home to take on the Post Falls Trojans at 12:00 p.m. Lake City is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Lake City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Sandpoint on Tuesday as they made off with a 23-9 win. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Madeline Peterson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Peterson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lake City got a massive performance out of KaeLee Kolden, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Kolden has posted since back in April of 2024. Aaliyah Lopez was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Lake City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene, and Coeur d'Alene kept the tradition alive. The Trojans fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 10-8 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since May 2, 2024.
Sienna Williams and Jaya Felix did some serious damage despite the final result: Williams got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI, while Felix went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was Felix's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenna Zimmerman, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Lake City's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Post Falls, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lake City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Post Falls struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake City might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Post Falls in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Timberwolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
