Last Thursday, Northwestern was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Indian Land. Northwestern has not had much luck with Indian Land recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The match pitted two dominant players against one another in Mason Mitchell and Michael Jones. Jones had a solid game and scored 11 points. Meanwhile, Mitchell did his best for the losing side, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, York's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 87-43 defeat at the hands of Catawba Ridge. York was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-23.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Bryson Steele, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Logan Burris, who scored ten points.
Northwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for York, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Northwestern have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for York, though, as they've been averaging only 17.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
