The Grapeland Sandies pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 59-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Leon. While losing is never fun, Grapeland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 897th, while Leon is ranked 404th).
Grapeland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aliyah Tryon, who scored 15 points along with two steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Tryon posted two or more blocks. Brylei Howard was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Grapeland's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-11. As for Leon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grapeland will take on Centerville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Leon, they will be playing at home against Latexo at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
