Softball Recap: Eastern Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Eastern had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Whiteoak on Friday. The Warriors blew past the Wildcats 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Allie Grooms made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April.

In other batting news, Emmery Simpson and Breeanna Jimison did most of the damage at the plate: Simpson went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Jimison went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave Simpson a new career-high. Lilly Yuppa was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Eastern lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Eastern is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Whiteoak, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Coming up, Eastern is taking a road trip to face off against West Union at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.24 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. Whiteoak does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
