Naugatuck hasn't had much luck against Seymour recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Greyhounds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Naugatuck put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Newington 16-15. The victory was some much needed relief for the Greyhounds as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Gianna Bush, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Katherine Umland, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one double.
Naugatuck hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newington struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Seymour strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Wilby get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. Seymour's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matchups.
Wilby's batters probably weren't too happy with Skylar Barton, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Barton has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rachael DeAngelis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, nine RBI, and two runs. Daphne Shea was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Seymour pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Naugatuck, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Naugatuck hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Seymour struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Naugatuck came out on top in a nail-biter against Seymour when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
