Basketball Recap: Paris Alaquinez Key Part of a Team Effort in Dragons Win

Southwest won the last time they faced Winn and things went their way on Friday too. The Southwest Dragons blew past the Winn Mavericks 56-33. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Dragons have posted since November 12th.

Southwest got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Paris Alaquinez out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Alaquinez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Geanna Martinez, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Southwest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Southwest's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-15. As for Winn, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 16 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season.

When Southwest and Winn next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Southwest will try to stop Jarrell's three-game winning streak when the meet at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Winn will try to stop Jay's five-game winning streak when the meet at 2:30 p.m. on December 31st.
