Baseball Recap: Navajo Prep Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Navajo Prep had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Wingate Bears. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Keith Dodge looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Khol Johnson was incredible, firing off four stolen bases, four runs, and three doubles while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Jakob Corley was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Navajo Prep pushed their record up to 9-13 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Wingate, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Navajo Prep will face off against rival Zuni at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Wingate is set to square off against their familiar foe Thoreau at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece.
