The Jefferson-Morgan Rockets proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 20) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 victory over Avella. The win made it back-to-back wins for Jefferson-Morgan.
Jefferson-Morgan found their leader in underclassman Dayten Marion, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Marion is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. John Woodward was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Avella saw an underclassman step up: Rylan Bell scored 16 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bell has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Wright, who scored 14 points.
Jefferson-Morgan's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Avella, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 8-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson-Morgan will challenge Mapletown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Avella, they will head out on the road to challenge Western Beaver at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
