The Covenant Christian Cougars waltzed into their match Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They ended the year with a bang, routing St. Andrew's 54-31. Considering Covenant Christian has won seven contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Covenant Christian to victory were Alani Owens and Keeley Chaddick. Owens scored 15 points along with six steals and five assists, while Chaddick scored 21 points along with three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Chaddick has scored at least 25% of Covenant Christian's points. Audrey Byrd was another key contributor, scoring two points.
Covenant Christian's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for St. Andrew's, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.
Covenant Christian will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Rosehill Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Rosehill Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. St. Andrew's and The Christian School at Castle Hills will round out the year against one another at 3:45 p.m. on Friday at. Hopefully The Christian School at Castle Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
