Edison is a perfect 8-0 against Corona del Mar since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Chargers will host the Sea Kings at 3:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Things were looking good for Edison after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Marina by a score of 2-1. The Chargers haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Elina Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Edison saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaila Arakaki, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Corona del Mar came up short against Newport Harbor on Tuesday and fell 14-9.
Morgan Pham stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Bella Uy, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Edison's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Corona del Mar, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
Corona del Mar's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Edison has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Corona del Mar, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Edison's sizable advantage in that area, the Sea Kings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Edison got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Corona del Mar by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Sea Kings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
