Mohawk Area moved up to 402 from 445 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AA Midwestern. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-21 win over Lincoln.
Beaver extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Riverside, 63-28. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Bobcats.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of Devin Kelosky and Matt Tedys proved tough for Beaver to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kelosky threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns and Tedys had 90 yards receiving. Aaron Tedys helped Riverside's passing attack out by catching three balls for 60 yards.
Jared Meyers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Wolverine lost to Mohawk Area. He completed three passes for 44 yards and also ran for 155 yards. Meyers' favorite target this week was Christian Sarver, who caught two passes for 42 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Kelosky of Riverside is the league leader in passing yards this season with 604. He has also thrown five touchdowns. On the ground, Lincoln's Meyers has rushed for 660 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Craig Thompson. The New Brighton star has 14 catches for 248 yards.
Two of the top units in WPIAL AA Midwestern will face off this week when Don Phillips' team takes on Aliquippa. The Wolverine's offense has racked up 134 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Quips have allowed only 10 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Joe Lamenza's team takes on Jeff Beltz's team. The Warriors are currently in fourth, while the Bobcats are in first.
Beaver Falls and New Brighton played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Beaver Falls eventually emerging with a 34-31 victory.
