After a string of four wins, the Weeki Wachee Hornets's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost to River Ridge at home by a decisive 48-34 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Weeki Wachee has scored all season.
Weeki Wachee's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paige Atwater, who scored nine points. Atwater hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Schumacher, who scored ten points.
River Ridge got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zaree Nichols out in front who scored 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Lauren Lee was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Weeki Wachee's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2. As for River Ridge, their win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Crystal River at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Crystal River will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Weeki Wachee is ranked 194th). River Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Parrish Community at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Parrish Community focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
