South Coast recap Nov. 7, 2012
Mission Viejo extended the longest winning streak in South Coast this week by beating El Toro, 49-7. The victory was the 10th in a row for the team.
Mission Viejo took down the Chargers 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
El Toro's dynamic duo of Conner Manning and Cody White proved tough for Bob Johnson's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Manning threw for 215 yards and one touchdown and White had 85 yards receiving. Blake Murphy helped El Toro's passing attack out by catching five balls for 77 yards.
Jeffrey Nelson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Rob Frith's team lost to the Diablos. The 6-foot-1 defensive lineman grabbed two sacks.
Sam Darnold provided a threat through the air and on the ground as San Clemente fell to Trabuco Hills. He completed 15 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 80 yards. Darnold's favorite target this week was Christian Bailey, who caught six passes for 67 yards.
El Toro's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Chargers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Manning has thrown for 3740 yards and 39 touchdowns this season, while Dominic Collins has 80 catches for 992 yards. Jacob Furnari leads the league in rushing with 1042 yards.
The Chargers' Collins is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only eight receiving yards against Santa Margarita to hit that benchmark.
The Mustangs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 566 from 643. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-14 victory over the Tritons last week.
