George Rogers Clark is 2-7 against the Valkyries since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Even though Christian Academy-Louisville scored an imposing 59 points on Monday, George Rogers Clark still came out on top. George Rogers Clark sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-59 win over the Centurions. Given George Rogers Clark's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Centurions are ranked 50th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dixie Heights 74-40 on the road. Winning may never get old, but Sacred Heart sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Sacred Heart's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Reagan Bender, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and ZaKiyah Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelina Pelayo, who scored ten points along with two steals.
George Rogers Clark pushed their record up to 22-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32.8 points. As for Sacred Heart, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.
George Rogers Clark came up short against the Valkyries in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 57-53. Can George Rogers Clark avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
