Gordon Central (Calhoun, Ga.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 59-11 win over Sonoraville (Calhoun, Ga.).
The Warriors put up 20 points in the opening frame. Gordon Central scored on a touchdown catch by
MJ Reynolds, a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by Reynolds in the first quarter, GC led 45-11 at the half.
The Warriors expanded their lead to 48 points entering the fourth quarter. Gordon Central scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.
Reynolds stood out for GC in the win. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Phoenix's lone touchdown came on a run in the second quarter.
The Warriors had given up an average of 11.4 points prior to the contest.
A 35-3 Gordon Central victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for GC, which lost to Cartersville last week, 41-19.
Gordon Central (7-1) goes up against Adairsville in a AAA Region 5 game matchup next week, while Sonoraville (1-7) locks horns with Cartersville also in a AAA Region 5 game.
