The Pershing County Mustangs came tearing into Saturday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past West Wendover with points to spare, taking the game 43-27. Given Pershing County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Wolverines are ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Raegan Burrows, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds. Burrows is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Yasmine McKinney, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Pershing County's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-1. As for West Wendover, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pershing County will square off against the Lakers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Wendover will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
