Williston and Dixie County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will be playing at home against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Williston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Belleview hit Williston with a six-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Devils fell just short of the Rattlers by a score of 7-6.
Colby Jansen was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Jansen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
Jansen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Daxton Weston, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
While Dixie County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Hamilton County on Thursday as they made off with an 11-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Williston, Dixie County also got a great game from a two-way player: Kyan Cooper. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Cooper was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Gray Wampler was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew DeMille, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Dixie County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hamilton County only posted a batting average of .148.
Dixie County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Williston, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Williston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dixie County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Williston was able to grind out a solid win over Dixie County in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, winning 6-3. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
